THE FLORENCE ELLISON
TRUST - Its progress and development
When it first came into being, it was considered that the purpose of the Trust
would best be fulfilled by purchasing a large property where our residents
could share life together and find friendship and companionship. So it was that
the first property acquired was a large detached house which was capable of
housing 4/5 residents at any one time.
Our first residents took up residence in 1981 and so the Florence Ellison Trust became a functioning reality. One of the original Trustees was responsible for the management of the house and this arrangement continued for several years.
After a period of time however, it became clear that whilst enjoying the companionship gained by living together, our residents also valued their independence. The Trustees then decided that the property should be sold and individual properties purchased. The proceeds of the sale enabled the Trustees to purchase some smaller homes in which to house our residents individually and this pattern has been the ongoing policy of the Trust to the present day.
Generally, the Trust has endeavoured to purchase a property, subject to available funds and a suitable home being on the market, as and when a qualifying applicant has come to the Trustees' notice. It has been a source of considerable satisfaction that, almost without exception, they have been able to help those who have applied to them for housing assistance.
We pay tribute and offer our thanks to our residents for the care and respect they have for the homes they occupy. We are most grateful.
So it has been that over the years a number of homes have been acquired and the present portfolio consists of 9 purpose built flats (6 on the ground floor and 3 on the first floor) and a detached bungalow. All these properties are situated within approximately half a mile of New Life Church, each being suitable for occupation by either a single occupant or by a couple.

In
order to keep up-to-date with all legislation affecting landlords and
rented property, the Trust is a member of the National Landlords'
Assocation. A Newsletter is produced occasionally for residents
keeping them informed of any matters which may affect them. The Trust has an ongoing programme of updating its homes when funds
allow.
